NCSCA Update

Greetings Coaches,

We all share in the disappointment of the recent NCHSAA announcement of the cancellation of our spring season.  These are difficult and challenging times for all of us and we understand safety is the priority.  As a result of the cancellation of the season, we will not select NCSCA post-season awards this spring.  Due to the extremely limited schedule teams were able to play, we do not feel we can fairly and accurately evaluate All-Region or All-State performers.  Most teams played between 3 and 6 games and unfortunately this just isn’t enough time to sufficiently assess player performance nor can we base the selection on previous year’s performances.

Instead we dedicate this year’s NCSCA All-State team to the Class of 2020.  A group that has suffered the most in having been deprived of their final high school season and the opportunity to finish their four-year journey on the field.  We hope they will look back on their careers and remember all of the joys, relationships, life lessons and memories they have made being a part of their soccer program.  We appreciate all their hard work, leadership and character displayed over the years and the lasting impression that has been left on their team and in their community.  So we will recognize all of our seniors as “Honorary All-State Selections” for the spring 2020 season.  An all-state certificate to recognize these seniors  can found on the "Region Information" page of this website for you to access and distribute to your seniors.

For members of the United Soccer Coaches, please consider nominating your athlete/team for the following awards:

· High School Scholar All-America: We will recognize High School Seniors that have a GPA of 3.75 on a 4.0 scale. These student-athletes will need to show outstanding performance in the classroom and on the field. In previous years, it was a prerequisite for the senior to have made All-State, in light of this year’s developments, the player does not have to have made All-State to be eligible.  A member that has such a player can go to the website and find the application on the High School awards page. The deadline for nominations is July 1. The program is headed by National Chair, Haroot Hakopian, Haroot_Hakopian@mcpsmd.org.

Senior Excellence Award: Every team has a player that truly exemplifies what High School Soccer is all about. The player has a spirit and work ethic that is outstanding among his/her teammates. This year, we allow a school up to three nominees per team.

·Team Academic Award: This is for a team that compiles a GPA of 3.25 on a 4.0 scale for the academic school year of 2019-2020. This GPA represents all the players on (or would have been on) the Varsity squad for this past school year. The application will be opened on May 18.

·  Coaching milestones: Any member that has reached a coaching milestone of 100, 200, 300 or more would be eligible for a certificate marking that achievement.
